Colorado Open Records Act (CORA)

A CORA request is an easy and quick method to augment your case early, pre-discovery, from government sources. The CORA is found at C.R.S. 24-72-201 et. seq.

It allows for members of the public to request an inspection of most government records.  One must make the request in writing, Giving Name, address and phone number of the requesting party. It should include a specific description of the records sought and the relevant time.  If the request is broad and time-consuming, the government office may require payment for the staff time in compiling the request. The request should be addressed to the particular department of governmental office from which you seek records.  Calling ahead to get the right person or department is helpful. In general, the response time ranges from three days to ten days.
